Leopard Man Essay

People believe that those who dress and act different do it just for attention. In Logan Feys' article "The Society of Leopard Man" he says, "Society tends to discourage people from expressing their unique ideas and behaving in ways that are different from their peers." I believe that not all people act different for attention, like some people might drink or smoke to relieve stress. Others might just do 'weird' things just because it makes them feel comfortable.

In this article Feys argues that 'ordinary' people ,like himself, shouldn't like the weird, freakish, abnormal, and extraordinary people. Because he believes people who act and look different do it just to get attention. Feys also argue that people who act different tend to have psychological disorders. While Feys tries to persuade us to stay away from people who act different, because we don't understand them, the evidence suggests that we should get society out of our lives from time to time.

The author's claim is that ordinary people should stay away from the extraordinary individuals because they can be dangerous, and he supports this claim by writing, "Abnormal people suffer from psychological disorders. Indeed plenty of weird people do have serious mental problems." I agree with the author to a certain point. There are a lot of abnormal people suffer from psychological problems. But because there are people who have those problems it doesn't mean all of them do.

"But from time to time, get society out of your life and out of your mind not permanently (necessarily), but from time to time." I agree with the author's statement. It is good to just have some time away from everyone. Like Feys said not permanently, unless you feel like you want to.

Just because you act different it doesn't necessarily mean you are doing it for attention. You are just not being what others are, a conformist. If you are an 'ordinary' person then try and talk to an 'abnormal' person for starters. You never know if the person just needs someone to be there for them.
